About us

The Story.

The AGROLEY story

From Pond to Plate. Rooted in Mithila.

Every great story begins somewhere. Ours begins in Mithila, a land deeply connected to the traditions, culture, and natural heritage of makhana.

For us, makhana is more than a snack. It is part of our roots, our heritage, and the place we call home.

Growing up connected to Mithila means understanding that the best things take time, care, and a deep respect for where they come from. Inspired by this heritage, we created AGROLEY with a simple vision: to bring the goodness of Mithila’s makhana to modern tables, while staying connected to its origins.

From Pond to Plate — Every Step Matters

Behind every makhana kernel is a journey that begins in the ponds of Mithila and continues through a series of careful processes before reaching your plate.

At AGROLEY, we believe in being involved throughout this journey. From the origins of the raw makhana to its processing, preparation, and final packaging, we focus on understanding and overseeing every stage of the process.

Our end-to-end approach helps us stay connected to the product, pay attention to quality at every step, and bring our customers closer to the story behind their snack.

We don't just want you to enjoy makhana. We want you to know where it comes from and the care that goes into bringing it to you.

Whether you're enjoying a quiet moment, taking a break during a busy day, or sharing a snack with family and friends, AGROLEY is here to make those everyday moments a little more special.

We honour the heritage behind makhana while embracing the possibilities of a new generation of mindful snacking.

More Than Makhana. A Connection to Our Roots.

AGROLEY represents our belief that knowing where your food comes from matters.

It is our way of celebrating Mithila, respecting the journey from pond to plate, and sharing a part of our heritage with more people.

As we grow, our commitment remains the same: to stay connected to our roots, take care at every stage, and make the journey from source to snack meaningful.

Because every kernel has a beginning, every process matters, and every bite carries a story.

Meet the seed behind the crunch

Light on the bowl. Big on goodness.

Makhana, also known as fox nut, is a seed that grows in water, primarily in Bihar, India. It grows in aquatic systems and is protein-rich, naturally low in fat, and contains minerals such as magnesium and iron, one reason it is often regarded as a superfood.

It can be enjoyed as a healthy snack, cooked into a dish, or simply used as a garnish.

From seed to snack

A small seed. A remarkable pop.

The white makhana in your bowl begins as a hard, dark seed. Roasting, tempering and opening the shell turn it into the light puff we recognise.

In Mithila, this work draws on the skill of farmers and processors. Traditional popping uses a hammer and board to open the heated seed.

The makhana journey

A living craft, made by hand.

Makhana is not grown in a field in the usual sense. It begins in water, and in the knowledge of farming families who have worked with Bihar’s ponds for generations.

01

Grown in living ponds

In Mithila, makhana grows in shallow water beneath broad, thorny water-lily leaves. The pond is part of the crop, the rhythm and the landscape.

02

Gathered by hand

When the seeds settle, farmers carefully collect them from the pond bed. It is patient, skilled work shaped by seasons, water and community.

03

Cleaned and sun-dried

The raw seeds are washed to remove mud and natural debris, then dried in the sun until the kernels are ready for the next stage.

04

Roasted until they pop

Traditional roasting and tempering help the hard seed open into the airy white fox nut we know. Timing, heat and touch all matter.

05

Sorted, seasoned, shared

The popped makhana is graded, hand-checked and gently roasted again for crunch before it is seasoned and sealed for your rituals.
